Ocean View Hotel, Bournemouth
2-4 December 2016
Last weekend four of our members participated in the Dorset Open Tournament.
In the Open event Michael Duggan finished in the top half of the draw, with a very good score of 3/5. To compete in your first congress at the highest level and make a challenge for the first three places - failing by only half point - is very good indeed.
Next we saw Ivan Willis in the Major event. He scored 2.5/5, which was excellent. He lives to fight in the Major again.
We then saw Paul Jackson in the Intermediary Tournament, again with a very good score of 3/5. I expect to see him join Ivan in the Major in his next Tournament Congress.
Lastly, but know means least, David Burt with a good score of 3/5 in the Minor event. Anyone who thinks this is a low standard, think again. These players play 50 or 60 games a year and have a wealth of experience. If David had won his last game, he would have been in the top three.
Congratulation to all. The best turn out this year for the Bournemouth Chess Club.
