18th Royal Beacon Seniors’ Congress
Monday 6th – Friday 10th November 2017
Royal Beacon Hotel, Exmouth
We were the intrepid three - Paul Jackson, Dave Burt and me. After two rounds nobody had lost. Paul J was in the Junior section 50s to 65s, Dave and I in were in Seniors over 65s. This Congress is different to most tournaments, as all play all, therefore grade 100 players, if they do well, can play top players with grade 190 plus! So this leads me to the best game of week - Paul Jackson drew against a 188 graded player, only losing this game all week. He finished on 3 out of 5 with no byes, which is his best result for a long time Well done Paul. I did ok too. I had a bye on Wednesday and lost to a 173 graded player, which was the only game I lost. I finished on a respectable 2/5 out 4. Dave won his first game against a 129 graded player and finished on 2 out 5. He drew several games against much higher graded players and overall he increased his grade over the week, which was very impressive. We all had great time and lots of fun.
