FAQs
I am a chess beginner, can I join?
Of course! We welcome all standards of chess players. Our members can help you set up your first board or challenge you to improve your skills.
Where is the Bournemouth Chess Club based?
We play at the Winton Liberal Club on a Wednesday evening from 7-11pm. There is nearby parking and a bar for refreshments.
How many club teams play League Chess?
There are six teams playing in the Bournemouth & Dorset Chess League (B&DCL), in Divisions 2, 3, 4 and 5. We also have a Bournemouth team playing in Division 2 of the Dorset Chess League. There are lots of opportunities if you'd like to play a competitive game.
Can I try out the club before deciding to join?
You are very welcome to come on a Wednesday evening and play a game of chess. We only ask that you send us a quick email to say you are coming and we can be ready to show you around.
What are the membership fees?
Currently there is a £1 fee for entry to a Wednesday club night (club fees are under review). There is a £25 joining fee for Winton Liberal Club. An additional £18 fee is payable to join English Chess federation, should you play in one of the club teams and this is due in September.
